Fume Hoods
Fume Hoods are an essential component of standard laboratory safety equipment. It is a 5-sided enclosure designed to contain and exhaust harmful fumes, airborne residue, vapors, odors, and particulate matter during laboratory processes.
Access to the interior is via a movable transparent panel called a Sash. Baffles are the movable partitions used to create slotted openings along the back of the hood. These slots and baffles direct the air that is being exhausted out of the hood. During operation, exhaust fumes are directed through the interior by a system of baffles strategically positioned in front of a common plenum area.
The fumes enter the plenum area through these slots and travel through the plenum and into the exhaust duct to the outside atmosphere. The front opening is framed with angle fascia (AIRFOIL) that reduces the turbulence of air entering the hood. The bottom airfoil directs a current of air at the countertop level to purge heavy fumes or spillage.
